![]() There may be updates to the colourblind feature, but not anytime soon.We sat down with streamer Kolorblind, who has amazed viewers not only with her #1 Bastion play, but also started conversations regarding Blizzard’s colorblind features. ![]() The colourblind feature was just one of the expected QOL changes and since the initial bump is over (actually releasing the improved feature), it’s very likely the devs will have turned their attention to other features such as the upcoming social feature or balance changes/bug fixes. Nowhere does it say that Overwatch is supposed to be completely accessible for those with disabilities. But, I’m sorry to say that Overwatch’s main priority isn’t accessibility. I was very happy for Kolor when the feature was announced and seeing her reaction as well as the happy people in her chat was very heartwarming. I’ve only popped in a few times and watched her initial reaction to the feature, so I don’t know the whole story, but the devs have told her (again, I don’t know details because I haven’t been tuning in as often) that features such as changing the colour of shields and certain abilities is more difficult to implement, and was intentionally left out in order to deliver the feature ASAP. I don’t know if you watch her content or streams, but Kolorblind (a colourblind bastion player) has been discussing the colourblind features on her stream. Then again, many non-colorblind will use the new colorblind option for the same reason. But it really is one step forward and two steps backward.Īlso, still no closed captioning, although I can understand why they wouldn’t want that, as it’s something many non-deaf people will use. People like me can just choose colors that are different from the barrier colors and now have an even bigger advantage over players with disabilities, it’s pretty stupid.ĭon’t get me wrong, the new options will improve the playability for some colorblind players, and especially the changes to sound will help them. I’m don’t even have slight color-deficiencies (I get perfect scores in Farnsworth-Munsell tests), and I’m really annoyed by the way they implemented the new changes, because now it’s considerably easier to identifiy enemies through barriers for people who aren’t colorblind. First off they don’t even let you choose the colors that work best for you freely, they just give a list of 13 pre-determined colors that they think might work. I was also quite surprised by their steps. (Allow changing barrier color, projectile colors and ability colors for both enemy and ally teams) I hope these issues will be addressed soon, as it is currently near impossible to play the game with a visual disability such as mine when simple fixes are possible. With the present 1.29 build, having, for exemple, two torbjorns ulsing their ults at the same time results in not knowing where to stand. Moreover, it is impossible for colorblind people such as myself to differentiate between ally and enemy ultimates other than the audio. ![]() This, understandably, is not acceptable for a game pretending to have colorblindness support. There is NO WAY to change the colors of barriers. There is NO WAY to change barrier opacity in game. Yes, sym’s ult is a “you don’t play the game for 15 seconds” ult for me! On top of it, the shield opacity has been changed, making it impossible to see through said shields. This, in combinaison with the newly changed barrier visuals, makes it a nightmare to see which is which.Īm I shooting an ally or enemy shield ? I have to fire at it first before knowing. No matter the color you request for both enemies and allies, it does not affect shields. ![]() (Blue and Yellow being, by nature, opposite colors.)Īlthough these changes were needed, I have to ask: I currently have set it to yellow for the enemy and aqua for ally. Understandably, the new colorblind changes allowing one to choose the color of both ally and enemy outlines are something I really really wanted. ![]() It is not as effective as seeing correctly but it allows me to play well enough. Since I cannot see some colors unless they are moving (for exemple, a ennemy genji not moving rapidly in a dark area will be invisible for me.), I use a lot of sound to “see” my enemies. Playing games (in this case, Overwatch) for me has always been about making the most of non-visual inputs. I’m a half blind, colorblind bastion main. ![]()
